Miscellany
Odds are, if you're reading this, you've already seen X-Men 3. I'm sorry. I was going to recommend saving your money and waiting for video. Did this one really make sense to you all? It's not a good sign when the not-so-eloquent Juggernaut is left to deliver the best line of the movie.
FYI, the plot of the movie is taken from the first storyline of the Astonishing X-Men comic, "Gifted", written by Joss Whedon. A direct adaptation would not have made a damn bit of sense, but I don't think they handled the transition very well. If you're in a comic-booky state of mind (and want to see great artwork by John Cassaday), look for the graphic novel.
Read these, if you haven't: The Hallowed Hunt, by Lois McMaster Bujold; Red Mars, by Kim Stanley Robinson; Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, by John LeCarre; On Stranger Tides, by Tim Powers. Not all of these are new, but all of them are good. You know me, of course, and my preferences; your own mileage may vary.
